19 Ways to Enjoy Valentine's Day Post-Breakup in 2022

Just because you’re single this Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you can’t make today an awesome day to do anything you want to do. No need to depend on someone else to plan—you get to celebrate today the way YOU want to.

I know you might be secretly hoping your ex will turn up at your door step and ask you out, but let’s not hold out on that right now. Instead, try these 21 ideas and spread joy to yourself and others today.

  1. Take a hot, yummy-smelling bath and process your emotions. Completely unplug and let go from your worries. When you emotionally and mentally can’t disconnect from thoughts of your ex, physically changing your state can help with that. Throw on this breakup playlist I made (hello 9+ hours of straight up heart tunes) You’ll cry and clean out your sinuses all at once. (I’m not the only person who loves to do this.)

  1. Watch your favourite romantic comedies. Use this as a manifesting tool to attract the love you deserve. I was told “romantic comedy love doesn’t exist” but I didn’t listen. Now, I genuinely feel like I am living that life. (And it all started during my brutal breakup in 2016!)

  2. Treat yourself to a 3-course meal delivered to your front door. Skip the overpriced prix fix menus and order a special dinner you normally wouldn’t. Plus, oh right, you can’t exactly dine at restaurants anymore.

  3. Pop out of work and take yourself out to lunch. Avoid the crowds of couples by treating yourself to a solo lunch date. I have truly learned to love these dates I have with myself.

  4. Call on your best friends. Surely you’ve got a few girls who either have long distance relationships, or single gal pals who’d love to zoom-date with you today. Create a charcuterie board and a sexy cocktail, and feel the love for the people who are in your life….through your computer.

  5. Create a vision board. Instead of dwelling on the past, use today to make your future your reality. But people, places, and things you want to achieve. Get specific. Dream big. And most of all…enjoy the inspiration that comes to you naturally through this process.

  6. Homemade dinner date. If you’re a busy body and feel like you want to make time to cook a loving meal, today is your day. Head out of the office early, swing by the grocery store, and get excited about unplugging and making a meal you can eat for leftovers too.

  7. Social media love post. Use your IG or Facebook platform to talk about the love you do have in your life, and how far you’ve come.

  8. Donate. Give love to those in need and make this year’s Valentine’s Day about total strangers and/or animals.

  9. Send e-cards to your friends and family. Sometimes it just takes the smallest gesture for your loved ones to feel special. You never know what people are going through today, so why not send a funny e-card to get their spirits up.

  10. Do virtual yoga class. Why not give your body some serious TLC to release any energy that has been building up. Nothing like a good sweat to let go of your ex just a little bit more.

  11. Treat yourself to that “thing” you’ve been waiting for. Whatever you’ve been wanting to buy, invest in, or do—DO IT. Use today as the perfect excuse to invest in your own joy.

  12. Update your library. My favourite thing I used to do was go to the local book store and let the Universe pick a good book for me to read. But, this year you can do the same thing, but virtually. Browse Amazon or Hayhouse for awesome personal development books.

  13. Write yourself a love letter. I agree this is cheesy, but cheesy things are often deeply loving. Grab a pen, paper, and sit for a few minutes to feel into the love you have within yourself. You’ve been through so much lately, so write about yourself like you would a friend going through a tough time.

  14. Buy a new outfit online. Okay, so maybe this year fashion isn’t a priority, but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy a great outfit you’ll actually love wearing around the house.

  15. Switch up your hair style. Often, our hair is attached to our identity, so if you’ve been looking for a healthy change, why not lean into this new chapter of your life by getting a new ‘do?

  16. Galentine’s Day dinner party. Have your gal pal overs for the night and make them the kind of dinner you wished a lover would throw you.

  17. Play the appreciation game. If you are feeling down in the dumps, challenge yourself to verbalizing 20 things that you are grateful for right now. Even during a horrendous breakup, you can still find simple things to appreciate about your life. Even a delicious coffee, or smooth morning at the office are great examples. Feed your joy by seeing what you do have today.

  18. Take a nap. Naps are the best thing ever so give ourself permission to have one today.

  19. Treat your parents. If your parents are like mine, then they need definitely need an excuse to spend time outside of the house together. If they’re not celebrating this year, help them to do so! Get them a gift card to a restaurant nearby, make the reservation, and tell them you’ve already planned their night for them. They can’t say no to that! Remind yourself that love is all around you, and you get to be part of the love that started your existence this Valentine’s Day.
