What to Do With Your Ex's Stuff (According to a Breakup Coach)

I believe there are 3 kinds of people after a breakup:

  1. those who get excited about keeping their ex’s dirty t-shirt because it was a staple in their wardrobe anyway

  2. those who throw away everything the exact moment the breakup happens. As they say, “out of sight is out of mind”

  3. and those who feel paralyzed at the thought of having to give their ex’s stuff back

Chances are, you’re here because you’re the 3rd person.

You’ve still got their stuff.

But you’re not sure what to do with it.

Maybe part of you wants to keep it and use it to strike up a conversation or see your ex again.

I was so that person so many times.

I once was dating a guy when I first moved to Vancouver, BC, and he gave me his red sweater one night, but then was way too embarrassed to come get it after he broke up with me so he totally told me to keep it. I definitely thought that meant he might come back for it.

…he never did.

Or maybe they legit left expensive things at your place. But they haven’t asked for it back.

And you can’t just donate it…I mean, what if they ask for it back?

So you’re here, reading this because you want my best recommendation on a consignment store.

KIDDING. (Although I LOVE consigning my things and shopping consignment is definitely a hobby of mine.)

So today, I took it upon myself, as a conscious breakup coach, to try to provide a “happy medium” if you’re not sure that to do with your ex’s stuff.
